Home/Compare/Brim vs WaterMinder
WaterMinder has earned its place: 13 years, more than 33,000 ratings, a standalone Apple Watch app and Apple Health sync. Brim is the quiet newcomer: no ads, a published number for every drink, and a one-time unlock alongside its subscriptions. The practical gap is the wrist. Brim has no Watch app.
The bottom line
If you log from your wrist, get WaterMinder. If you want a calm, ad-free tracker that shows its numbers and lets you pay once, that’s Brim.
We make Brim, so read this page accordingly. Every claim is sourced, prices were checked on the dates shown, and where a rival is the better fit we say so. We also run price experiments, so the price you see in the app may differ from the one below.
Where WaterMinder shines
Credit first. These are real advantages, and if one of them is your dealbreaker, WaterMinder is the right call.
- The Apple Watch app is the real thing: standalone, logging with your phone nowhere nearby. It is the most-cited reason people choose WaterMinder, and Brim has no Watch app at all.
- Your data can move. WaterMinder writes to Apple Health. Brim has no HealthKit integration and no export today, so your history stays on your phone and nowhere else.
- The coefficients are editable. Disagree with what WaterMinder thinks a coffee is worth and you can change it. Brim’s values are fixed.
- Thirteen years, monthly updates and named developer support are real trust. Brim launched in June 2026 and is still earning its ratings.
Where Brim is different
Brim makes a different bet: tracking sticks when the app stays quiet. No bells, no whistles, one glassy screen and your number.
Fast. Lock Screen widgets log a drink in one tap, without unlocking the phone.
Pretty. A minimalist, quiet screen. The focus is hydration, nothing else.
Versatile. All 25 drink types on a published hydration index (Premium): see what a drink is worth before you install, not after.
No guilt. No points, no badges, no reward token. And no ads on any tier.

Which one should you use?
Get WaterMinder if…
You log from an Apple Watch, you want your water in Apple Health, or you want to set the coefficients yourself. Brim does none of those three today.
WaterMinder on the App Store →Get Brim if…
You want no ads and nothing gamified, you’d rather pay once than subscribe, and you want to see what each drink is worth before you spend anything.
Brim on the App Store →What users say
Quoted verbatim from public App Store reviews, with the star rating and the app version or review date. We over-sampled WaterMinder’s critical reviews deliberately, so its side reads harsher than its overall average. Brim launched in June 2026: every written review so far is five stars, and there is no critical tail to over-sample yet.
“It won’t let me use WaterMinder without a 7-day sub free trial and I don’t want any subscriptions and it won’t let me go into the free version because there is no ❌ there.”
“It’ll work for a few days then just stop sending notifications which is you know, the point of the app... Pretty disappointing for something I paid premium for.”
“Why is there crypto in my water tracking app?”
“…logging water is very simple from the locked screen with a widget with one tap. Very helpful when working from home and fully locked in”
“Very intuitive and clean UI. Easy to use, looks great, and makes it simple to stay on top of my daily water intake”
Frequently asked
Is WaterMinder free?
There is a free, ad-supported tier. Multiple reviewers report a first-launch subscription screen with no visible way to dismiss it (1 star, v7.2). Brim shows its own paywall at the end of onboarding; you can dismiss it and stay free.
Does WaterMinder have a lifetime purchase?
No lifetime unlock appears among the ten in-app purchases Apple displays on its listing (checked July 13, 2026). Apple caps that list at ten, so we cannot say none exists. Brim sells a one-time unlock at $39.99.
Why is there crypto in a water app?
WaterMinder added a Solana reward token ($WMDR) alongside points and an “AI Gulp Detection” feature. Its own reviewers ask this exact question and mostly dislike the answer. Brim has neither.
Does Brim work on Apple Watch?
No. WaterMinder’s Watch app is standalone and logs without the phone nearby. If that matters to you, WaterMinder is the one to get.
Does Brim sync to Apple Health?
No. Brim has no HealthKit integration and no export. WaterMinder writes to Apple Health.
Is WaterMinder private?
On Apple’s privacy label it declares no tracking and no data linked to you, the same bucket Brim sits in. It does declare a device identifier used for third-party advertising. Brim declares no advertising identifier.
