Home/Compare/Brim vs Waterllama
Waterllama is a lovely game. Brim is a quiet tracker. Waterllama brings collectible characters, challenges, a free Apple Watch app and iCloud backup, with 150,000+ ratings at 4.9 stars. Brim skips the game: one calm, glassy screen, a published number for every drink, no account. Both free tiers log water only.
The bottom line
If the llama keeps you drinking, keep the llama. If you want a quiet screen that shows what each drink was worth, that’s Brim.
We make Brim, so read this page accordingly. Every claim is sourced, prices were checked on the dates shown, and where a rival is the better fit we say so. We also run price experiments, so the price you see in the app may differ from the one below.
Where Waterllama shines
Credit first. These are real advantages, and if one of them is your dealbreaker, Waterllama is the right call.
- The game works. More than 150,000 people rate Waterllama 4.9 stars, and for many of them a llama with feelings is what finally made the habit stick.
- The free tier is generous. A native Apple Watch app, Apple Health sync and iCloud backup all cost nothing. Brim has none of the three today.
- Backup matters. Waterllama restores your history from iCloud. Brim keeps it only on your phone, so deleting the app deletes your data.
- And both free tiers log water only. Multi-drink tracking is paid in both apps. Not a Brim win, and we won’t pretend it is.
Where Brim is different
Brim makes a different bet: tracking sticks when the app stays quiet. No bells, no whistles, one glassy screen and your number.
Minimalistic. Waterllama is genuinely pretty too; the difference is restraint. One quiet screen, your number, and nothing else asking for attention.
No guilt. Brim keeps a streak, free at full history, and nothing sulks when you break it.
Versatile. All 25 drink types, each credited by its published hydration index (Premium). Waterllama doesn’t publish its values.
Fast. One tap on a Lock Screen widget logs your water without unlocking the phone.

Which one should you use?
Get Waterllama if…
You want the habit to feel like a game, you log from your wrist, or you want your history backed up to iCloud. All three are real reasons to stay.

You want a quiet tracker that tells you your americano counted for 60%, sets your goal from your body and climate, and never asks you to feed anything.

Quoted verbatim from public App Store reviews, with the star rating and the app version or review date. We over-sampled Waterllama’s critical reviews deliberately, so its side reads harsher than its overall average. Brim launched in June 2026: every written review so far is five stars, and there is no critical tail to over-sample yet.
“It doesn’t shame you. It doesn’t scold you. It doesn’t flash aggressive red warnings like you’ve personally offended the concept of hydration. It just gently nudges you forward.”
“This app used to be so good, now I can’t even track a drink that isn’t water without getting premium.”
“No option to delete water that was added in a day by accident unless you pay $8.99. That’s a strange feature to lock behind a paywall.”
“Such a beautiful, aesthetic water tracker, and without a boom of colors. Logging water is a pleasure for me every single time - nothing distracts me, and I just enjoy an interface that’s clearly made with taste and real care for the user.”
“It has a simple and intuitive UI that is easy to use. The reminders help me stay hydrated, and the streak feature keeps me motivated to drink enough water!”
Frequently asked
Is Waterllama free?
Water logging is free forever, and the free tier includes the Watch app, Apple Health and iCloud backup. Every non-water drink is paid. Reviewers report that deleting a mis-tapped entry is paid too (5 stars, v1.92.6); we have not verified that in the current build.
Does Brim have a pet or a streak?
No pet, no characters, no leagues. Brim keeps a streak, free at full history, with no guilt attached to breaking it.
Does Waterllama have an Apple Watch app?
Yes, native and free. Brim has no Apple Watch app, so if you log from your wrist, Waterllama is the one to get.
Which one counts coffee?
Both do, and both charge for it. Brim publishes the exact percentage each drink counts for and shows it even to free users. Waterllama does not publish its numbers.
Can I undo a mis-tap?
In Brim, yes, free, with undo. In Waterllama, reviewers report that editing or deleting a logged entry requires Premium (5 stars, v1.92.6).
